    Who is Jaye Griffiths?

    Jaye Griffiths is a stage, television and voice-over actress from the UK. She was born on 24 September 1963 and was trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She has since starred in BBC favourites , , and Doctor Who. She lives in Burnley, Lancaster.

    Television Career

    Jaye's first break in TV came in 1995 where she was cast as crime-fighting expert Ros in action/adventure/sci-fi show . The show ran for four seasons, coming to a close in 1999. It has since accumulated something of a cult-following for its low production value in the early days.

    Since , Jaye has kept incredibly busy across the BBC, ITV and more recently Netflix. Over the years she has been seen tending to patients in medical dramas including and . Fans will likely know her best as Dr Elizabeth Croft in BBC's , or alternatively as Elle Gardner in .

    Medical TV aside, her credits extend to international hits , , , , and , where she starred alongside Peter Capaldi in 2015.

    Stage Career

    Alongside her lengthy television CV, Jaye is no stranger to the stage. She has a passion for Shakespeare, with appearances as Portia in , Titania in and Emilia in during the 00s. In 2014 she opened a one-woman stage show in New York's Broadway, .

    Criticism of the industry

    In an interview with the Daily Mirror in 2017, Jaye expressed her criticism of the TV and film industries for their continued failure to cast middle-aged women. She explained: "No one cares because we are not seen as having an effect on society. We actually are politically active, solvent beyond belief, we have power but no one cares. We are so invisible." Her views mirror those of Emma Thompson, Julie Walters and Amanda Redman. 

    Private Life

    Jaye largely keeps her private life out of the public eye, having no social media presence. She is married to husband Paul Bezodis, with whom she shares two dogs, Peggy (a blue-and-white whippet) and Rodney, a lurcher. Dogs play a large part in her life, so much so that she is an Honorary Friend of the Forever Hounds Trust, a charity that rescues and cares for unwanted, abused and abandoned greyhounds, lurchers and sighthounds.
